The Michigan City Animal Control Division has announced a volunteer program that will encompass kennel duties located at Michigan City’s Central Maintenance on the west side. Duties will include feeding cats and dogs and cleaning the kennels. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Dog and cat owners looking to get their pets fixed can take advantage of a transport program offered by the South Suburban Humane Society in Glenwood, Ill. The program transports pets to the clinic from Gary on the second Wednesday of the month. The clinic offers special rates for low-income families and those receiving disability, Social Security, unemployment or other public aid. Other vaccinations and procedures are available the day of surgery.

FUNDRAISING EVENT | Valparaiso
Now through January 18, artwork created by seven-year-old Valparaiso-resident Rosa Cohn, and her fellow classmates at TJ Elementary School will be on display at Blackbird Café, 114 E Lincolnway, Valparaiso. Artwork will be available for sale at $10 a picture. The public is invited to a party with the artists and their families on January 18 at 6 p.m. at the café. All proceeds benefit Lakeshore PAWS at Cohn’s request.
