The Independent Cat Society is holding three adoption specials during February. The shelter is offering one cat for $75 and get a companion free. The shelter also has a special of adopt a cat 5 and older and the shelter will waive the adoption fee. To help celebrate Valentine’s Day, the shelter also is offering a special where someone may adopt one of the shelter’s “pairs” on the ICS Pairs list and will get both cats for $50.

Recipients of public aid (Food Stamps, Medicaid, Unemployment or Disability) can have their pet spayed or neutered at the Estelle Marcus Animal Clinic for a low cost: $50 for dogs, $30 for cats. Feral cats and pit bulls can also be fixed at these prices, regardless of owner income.

The Michigan City Animal Control Division has announced a volunteer program that will encompass kennel duties located at Michigan City’s Central Maintenance on the west side. Duties will include feeding cats and dogs and cleaning the kennels. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Dog and cat owners looking to get their pets fixed can take advantage of a transport program offered by the South Suburban Humane Society in Glenwood, Ill. The program transports pets to the clinic from Gary on the second Wednesday of the month. The clinic offers special rates for low-income families and those receiving disability, Social Security, unemployment or other public aid. Other vaccinations and procedures are available the day of surgery.
