American Greyhound will participate in the Freezin' for a Reason Polar Bear Plunge event along Lake Michigan Jan. 1. Donations are being accepted. The group also is inviting anyone who would like to join American Greyhound to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge.

The Humane Society of Northwest Indiana will host "TGIF: Thank Goodness It's Fondue!" from 6 to 10 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Service Doctor, 5150 E. U.S. 30, Merrillville. The fundraiser will feature Chef John Rooney's fondue, as well as cheese, chocolate, vegetables, silent auction baskets, a raffle and pets up for adoption. Cost is $35 in advance, $40 at the door. LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER TRANSPORT | Gary
Dog and cat owners looking to get their pets fixed can take advantage of a transport program offered by the South Suburban Humane Society in Glenwood, Ill. The program transports pets to the clinic from Gary on the second Wednesday of the month. The clinic offers special rates for low-income families and those receiving disability, Social Security, unemployment or other public aid. Other vaccinations and procedures are available the day of surgery.
