Humane Society Northwest Indiana will host its Christmas Open House and Picture Your Pet with Santa event from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the shelter, 6100 Melton Road. The event also will include food, drinks and tours of the shelter. Put your personal Christmas ornament on the shelter's "Tree of Hope." All proceeds from the tree will go toward "Hope's Fund," which cares for the severely abused and neglected animals that come into the shelter.
