American Greyhound will hold adoption events from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Petco in Highland and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (EST) today at Pet Supplies Plus in Warsaw.

PARADE | Michigan City

American Greyhound will participate in Michigan City's St. Patrick's Day Parade. Lineup is along Washington Street at 11:45 a.m. and judging is at noon. Parade starts at 1 p.m. Anyone who has adopted or fostered for American Greyhound is invited to join the group in the parade.

The Independent Cat Society will hold its annual Pussycat Pizza Party from 5 to 9 p.m. March 18 at Aurelio's, 2330 N. Highway 35. Tickets for all-you-can-eat pizza and pop are $15 at the door. Desserts also will be available. Proceeds benefit the shelter.

During March, the Independent Cat Society will celebrate the "Eyes of March" by offering an adoption special for cats with green eyes. These cats can be adopted for $40, with a companion cat with green or any other color eyes for $25. Adoption fees for cats older than 5 are waived.

FUNDRAISER | Hobart

County Line Orchard will host "Pet Rock," a family-friendly event that benefits the homeless animals of The Humane Society of Northwest Indiana. The event, scheduled for 5 to 11 p.m. March 29, will feature live music, comfort foods, drawings and both silent and live auctions. The centerpiece performer of the evening will be Jim Peterik & Friends, featuring Grammy Award winner Jim Peterik.

COST SPAY/NEUTER | Munster

Recipients of public aid (Food Stamps, Medicaid, Unemployment or Disability) can have their pet spayed or neutered at the Estelle Marcus Animal Clinic for a low cost: $50 for dogs, $30 for cats. Feral cats and pit bulls can also be fixed at these prices, regardless of owner income.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM | Michigan City

The Michigan City Animal Control Division has announced a volunteer program that will encompass kennel duties located at Michigan City’s Central Maintenance on the west side. Duties will include feeding cats and dogs and cleaning the kennels. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER TRANSPORT | Gary

Dog and cat owners looking to get their pets fixed can take advantage of a transport program offered by the South Suburban Humane Society in Glenwood, Ill. The program transports pets to the clinic from Gary on the second Wednesday of the month. The clinic offers special rates for low-income families and those receiving disability, Social Security, unemployment or other public aid. Other vaccinations and procedures are available the day of surgery.
