FONDUE EVENT | Merrillville

The Humane Society of Northwest Indiana will host "TGIF: Thank Goodness It's Fondue!" from 6 to 10 p.m. today at the Service Doctor, 5150 E. U.S. 30, Merrillville. The fundraiser will feature Chef John Rooney's fondue, as well as cheese, chocolate, vegetables, silent auction baskets, a raffle and pets up for adoption. Cost is $35 in advance, $40 at the door. Call to reserve tickets.

SWEETHEART CONTEST | Westville

The Independent Cat Society is hosting its "Sweetheart Contest" in which 10 cats will compete for the title of "Sweetheart of the Year." Votes/donations must be cast by Feb. 29. Vote by visiting the organization's website and clicking on the PayPal emblem. Indicate you are placing a vote for the sweetheart of your choice, and name the cat. You may also mail a check, payable to the ICS, to P.O. Box 735, Westville, IN 46391. Indicate the choice on the check. The cat receiving the most donations will be named the "Sweetheart of the Year."

LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER TRANSPORT | Gary

Dog and cat owners looking to get their pets fixed can take advantage of a transport program offered by the South Suburban Humane Society in Glenwood, Ill. The program transports pets to the clinic from Gary on the second Wednesday of the month. The clinic offers special rates for low-income families and those receiving disability, Social Security, unemployment or other public aid. Other vaccinations and procedures are available the day of surgery.
