HAMMOND | A Crown Point man is asking for an eight-year prison sentence on federal child pornography charges.
Joshua Atwood pleaded guilty in April to possession of child porn, after authorities found 13 child pornography images and 11 child pornography videos stored on Atwood's computer hard drive, according to a federal criminal complaint.
Atwood's attorney has asked that he be sentenced to 97 months in prison, citing his minimal criminal history, willingness to participate in therapy and loving home to return to after incarceration.
Atwood's mother wrote an emotional plea to U.S. District Judge Rudy Lozano, describing her son as a lover of music, despite childhood hearing and communication impediments.
Atwood is scheduled to be sentenced July 19.
