GRIFFITH | The Lake Area United Way named Jeremy Miller, Centier Bank regional vice president, its 2012 Volunteer of the Year on Thursday.
Miller was recognized at the the Indiana Association of United Ways’ Volunteer of the Year Awards Banquet in Carmel, Ind.
The organization cited Miller for his contributions as Centier Bank's employee campaign manager and his service on United Way's Success by Six Steering Committee, an early childhood education initiative.
He also was the captain of the United Way Day of Caring team, where he participated in building a play area at Haven House, a shelter for abused women and children.
“Jeremy puts in countless hours of volunteer work and leadership. ... Last year he chaired and revamped (Lake Area United Way) Allocations Committee and led our community impact work in education, income stability and health,” said Kay Nelson, Northwest Indiana Forum's director of environmental affairs.
Miller, of St. John, will serve as the 2013 board chair for the Lake Area United Way.
“Personally, I am hoping to see our United Way attract young people to get involved and to also think more regionally," Miller said. "United Way has an opportunity to really help Northwest Indiana be a better place to live, work and raise families. I’m excited about the endless possibilities.”
