The Rachel’s Challenge Bullying Prevention program is a powerful example of turning tragedy into triumph.

Based on the philosophy of 15-year-old Rachel Joy Scott, the first student killed in the 1999 Columbine High School shooting, the program has brought Rachel’s message of compassion and respect to audiences across the nation. Rachel believed that if one person went out of their way to show compassion, that act of kindness would start a chain reaction.

The T.F. South Activities Department cordially invites the entire community to attend a presentation by Rachel’s Challenge at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the school’s auditorium, 18500 Burnham Ave.

Fall parent-teacher conferences for T.F. North and T.F. South will take place from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. We encourage parents, guardians and caregivers to come meet their student’s teachers, receive an update on their progress and receive information on school volunteer opportunities. School will not be in session that day.

The T.F. North homecoming game will take place Sept. 27 with the junior varsity game scheduled for 4:45 p.m. and a 6:45 p.m. start for the varsity squad. The semi-formal homecoming dance, “The Sweetest Night Ever," will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 28 in the gold gym, 755 Pulaski Road. Pre-sale tickets are $10 and are available at the Activities/Athletics Office. Tickets at the door are $15.

New to this year’s homecoming festivities are the Throwback Jam for parents and tailgating. All T.F. North students and their families, friends and alumni are welcome to attend the Family Tailgating Night, which will include bounce houses and games, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27. Parents are invited to attend the Homecoming Throwback Jam from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 28.

The T.F. South football teams today play at Hillcrest in Country Club Hills. The community is invited to come out and cheer on the Rebels at 4:45 p.m. for the sophomore game and 7 p.m. for the varsity game.

Current, future and prospective teachers are invited to attend the fourth annual Teachers for Tomorrow Conference sponsored by Golden Apple and hosted by T.F. South on Saturday. Lunch will be provided and six CPDUs will be available for practicing teachers. Visit http://bit.ly/17JQTak to learn more.
