CROWN POINT | The daughter of Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey was arrested Monday and accused of breaking into her mother's home, sheriff's police said.
Amie Frey, 33, and her boyfriend, David Storey, 32, both of Hobart, were charged with burglary, police said.
Merrilee Frey returned at 10:55 a.m. to her Winfield house after running an errand and found her daughter's Nissan vehicle parked outside, officials said.
Frey told deputies her backdoor had been kicked in and she found her daughter inside along with Storey, said Patti Van Til, spokeswoman for the Lake County Sheriff's Department.
Merrilee Frey had told her daughter she wasn't allowed inside of her home, Van Til said. She asked Amie Frey to empty her pockets and they were filled with jewelry belonging to Merrilee Frey, Van Til said.
Merrilee Frey called police as Amie Frey and Storey left in the Nissan SUV, Van Til said. The couple were later stopped and arrested by Hobart police.
Amie Frey and Storey were booked into the Lake County Jail on Monday afternoon, police said. Their bond had not been set.
Merrilee Frey did not return phone calls seeking comment Monday evening.
