CROWN POINT | A Lake County jury found an East Chicago man guilty Wednesday night of sexually assaulting his neighbor.
Major L. Wilson, 62, was convicted on three counts of criminal deviate conduct, two counts criminal confinement, two counts of burglary, battery committed by means with a deadly weapon and two counts of sexual battery.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Michael Toth said the jury deliberated for two and a half hours Wednesday. The jury also agreed to tack on a habitual offender enhancement, which will impact Wilson's sentencing.
Wilson was accused of breaking into the 25-year-old woman's apartment early March 4 while the woman's mother was at work, according to the affidavit. Wilson, while wearing a mask and holding a butcher knife, touched the woman inappropriately, according to court records.
He also forced the woman to remove her clothes and he then took photos of her nude, according to the affidavit.
The woman recognized the suspect's voice as her neighbor, according to the affidavit.
Later that day, Wilson returned to the woman's apartment and gave her a note demanding she not say anything about the incident.
Wilson previously served time in prison after being convicted twice on burglary charges, according to the Indiana Department of Correction's website.
He will be sentenced Sept. 24 in Lake County Criminal Court.
