CALUMET CITY — Alderman "Leni" Wosczynski, 2nd Ward, sponsored a school supplies giveaway to over 110 2nd Ward students on Aug. 19.
School supply lists were obtained from local school districts so children could receive supplies specific to their grade. Bags full of supplies were distributed to children from preschool to college.
Parents and children also had the opportunity to speak with the cadets from the Calumet City Police Department and take a tour of the city's Command Center Mobile Unit.
The Fire Department took sign-ups for free smoke detector installations and explained the Vial for Life program. Calumet Memorial Park District and Sandridge Fitness Center provided information on fall sports sign-up and fitness center programs for children and adults.
