CHICAGO – They bill themselves as a mixture of "sexo y violencia," and while they view Los Angeles as their "home," they plan to make an appearance in Chicago on Wednesday.

"They" are Lucha VaVOOM, which is part Mexican-style showmanship when it comes to professional free-style wrestling and also has elements of strip-tease, with scantily-clad females strutting their stuff for the entertainment of the crowds.

But Chilango, one of the wrestlers who will partake in the Chicago-area show, made it clear that this is not all staged entertainment.

"I have to work out two hours a day," said the wrestler, who took his stage name from the Spanish slang term depicting a resident of Mexico City. "I need to stay in shape, or I couldn't do this."

But he said the wrestling spectacle is meant, first and foremost, to entertain. "It's a good show," he said. "It's going to be a great day" in Chicago.

The troupe will perform two shows on June 16 at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., both at the Park West Theater, 322 W. Armitage Ave. Among the performers who will make the trip to Chicago on that date will be dancer Michelle L'Amour, who is a Chicago-area native.

Because of the sexual nature of parts of the show, it is meant for audiences 21 and older.

Among the wrestlers scheduled to appear on the bill that day will be the "Lil' Chicken," "Dirty Sanchez"  and the "Crazy Chickens," along with "Chocolate Caliente."

For those of you for whom half-naked women and crazed-costumed wrestlers aren't enough entertainment, the shows also will include comedians Blaine Capatch and Tom Kenny providing their own type of commentary about the show, which while it may be fixed in advance, still includes difficult acrobatic feats by the wrestlers.

Lucha VaVOOM has been operating since August 2003, when it was meant to be a one-time show.

But it managed to attract enough attention that the performances have continued, including appearances in venues ranging from Las Vegas to Los Angeles to Toronto, and now Chicago.

Tickets for the event range from $24.50 to $49.50, and are available through Ticketmaster.
