GARY | One man's quest for a late-night meaty treat landed him in handcuffs.
Jose R. Gonzalez was arrested about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, after causing a ruckus at a Gary gas station when the Hot Pocket he bought supposedly didn't have any meat in it, police said.
Upon realizing he had paid for a meatless version of the dough snack, Gonzalez allegedly grabbed another one and microwaved it.
Gonzalez refused officers' attempts to get him to leave the station, saying he wasn't leaving until he either got the $2.79 he spent or the meat-filled Hot Pocket he paid for, police said.
Hot Pockets come in a variety of flavors, mostly containing meat. There is a five-cheese version, but it is unclear what flavor Gonzalez chose that incited his alleged outburst.
Officers tried to explain to Gonzalez how he could take his matter over the Hot Pocket to court and escorted him out of the store, but Gonzalez refused to go, records state.
While being taken to the Gary police station, Gonzalez placed his feet near the front of the squad, between the driver and passenger seats, and said, "Now you have to smell my feet," records state.
He then allegedly thwarted officers' attempts to get him out of the squad by locking the back door with his feet.
Gonzalez was charged in Gary City Court with disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement.
