CEDAR LAKE | Residents can start raking their leaves to the edge of their property as the townwide cleanup is set to begin this week, town officials said.

Ed Robinson, Cedar Lake's director of operations, said leaf pickup will begin Monday and continue through at least Saturday, perhaps longer if necessary.

"With the early winter last year, I expect a lot of leaves," he said.

Beginning Wednesday and continuing through Saturday, the focus will be on removing litter and recycling.

Dumpsters will be placed throughout the town for residents' easy access.

The cleanup will culminate Saturday when Cedar Lake Town Council members and residents focus on removing litter and clearing debris in their wards.

The public works garage will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day to accept recyclables and larger items and white goods.

Mary Joan Dickson, parks superintendent, is leading the road and ditch cleanup Saturday and has put out the call for volunteers.

Anyone wanting to be involved can contact Cedar Lake Town Hall at (219) 374-7400.
