Rob Hogg

About Rob:

He and his wife, Laura, live in Crown Point and have two children: Emily, 16, and Max, 14.

Bachelor's degree in business from Indiana University.

Manages Office Depot in Highland.

Member of Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church in St. John, plays guitar in the rock praise band.

Accomplishments: Rob Hogg works with youth at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church. He is a confirmation small group leader, Sunday school teacher and leads a monthly ministry he started called BASIC, Brothers And Sisters In Christ; on average 30 to 40 youth attend, primarily middle schoolers from the assembly and their friends. The evening starts with pizza, then discussion and creative ‘crazy' games followed by a Bible study. Hogg chaperones social events for the teens including Youth Quakes a weekend rally for middle school youth in Chicago with nationally known speakers and Christian rock bands. He also helps organize and leads games and Bible studies during the 30-Hour Famine when the teens fast to raise money for World Hunger. "I like working with the kids," he said. "I wanted to do it because when I was in eighth-grade, there was a gentleman that did something similar to what I do and that planted the seed. I think that's what we're trying to do; plant seeds, teach them about Jesus

and show them what a Christian world is and can be."

Why I minister to others: "Once I started serving I felt my faith walk strengthen and Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church is a growing, changing dynamic church."

What I read: "I like to read Christian fiction and science-fiction. Right now I'm reading ‘The Kite Runner'."

Advice: "Take time in your life to listen. Listen to your own thoughts and to what God is telling you."

What inspires me: "The simplest of things inspire me n seeing natural beauty, music and watching people serve. I have so many mentors through my church, they're selfless and they serve."

People might be surprised to know: "I've gone to over 40 Grateful Dead shows." -SUE BERO, Times Correspondent
