HOBART | Police are investigating the death early Thursday morning of a 3-month-old baby boy found in a home in the 300 block of West Eighth Street, police Lt. Steve Houck said.

Police were alerted to the unresponsive infant in a call to them by a boyfriend of the baby's mother, he said.

Houck said it is routine for police to conduct an investigation anytime there is a death in a home and the cause might prove to be of natural causes.

He declined to provide any more information on the circumstances surrounding the baby's death or what might have caused the baby's death.

A Lake County coroner office spokeswoman said the infant was pronounced dead by the coroner's office at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart.

The cause of death is still pending, she said.
