SCHERERVILLE | Schererville officials are confident the town's new accolade is more than a bragging right.
Money Magazine ranked the town 71st in its annual list of the Top 100 Best Places to Live.
"I think it's just confirmation of what a lot of people believe to be the characteristics of Schererville," said Peter Novak, CEO of the Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors.
The impact of the recognition is tough to quantify, but if a home buyer is choosing between two towns -- and one of them is ranked as a top place to live -- that likely will weigh into the decision, Novak said.
In 2005, Dyer, Schererville's neighbor to the west, filled the No. 97 slot on the magazine's list.
In its ranking, the magazine considered schools, crime, sense of community, things to do and economic opportunity.
The recognition will help attract more businesses to the area, which will draw more residents to town, Councilman Tom Schmitt said.
