Motorcyclist arrested after fleeing on foot

At 12:30 a.m. Sunday, a Crown Point police officer saw a motorcycle traveling southbound on Merrillville Road around Summit Street and stopped the vehicle in the parking lot at the 500 block of Merrillville Road.

Previous police contacts identified the driver as Michael Kucki, 48, and Kucki was told his license was suspended with a prior conviction. According to police reports, Kucki began to argue with police about his license, and when advised he was under arrest and his motorcycle impounded, he grabbed the vehicle's keys and fled on foot. Police caught up with him shortly.

Kucki was charged with resisting law enforcement and driving while suspended with a prior conviction, both misdemeanors, as well as speeding and no motorcycle endorsement, both infractions.
