CALUMET CITY

Police are investigating recent burglary spree

Calumet City police are investigating several recent burglaries.

A burglary was reported on the first block of 158th Place at 3:58 p.m. on Monday, Calumet City Police Capt. Dan Zorzi said.

"It's currently under investigation," he said. "No one was home, and someone entered the building."

In a separate incident, a residential burglary was reported in the 400 block of 154th Place at 11:09 p.m. on Sunday. The suspect or suspects entered the home from a bedroom window, Zorzi said.

A burglary was also reported on the 300 block of Muskegon Ave. at 3:57 p.m. on Monday, he said.

A residential burglary was reported on the 400 block of Pulaski Road at 10:28 p.m. on Monday. Entry was gained through a window, Zorzi said.

Police are still looking into whether there is a pattern among the crimes, he said.

Church, parks offering free food to the needy

The Chicago Heights Park District will host a food giveaway in conjunction with the Chicago Miracle Temple Church at 9 a.m Jan. 29.

Second Ward Alderman Alex Lopez said those needing assistance can pick up food at the park office at 1400 Chicago Road in Chicago Heights.

"They're issuing about eight bags of produce to each family," Lopez said.

Lopez said that those seeking help do not need to be Chicago Heights residents and that no identification cards are necessary, but those who come must be able to carry out the food on their own.

CALUMET CITY

Police seek gray SUV that was stolen Monday

An SUV was reported stolen in the 700 block of Newell Avenue at 5:26 p.m. Monday, Calumet City police said. The vehicle was a 2001 gray Ford Escape with a license plate X740165, police said.
