Last Sunday marked the second Kids Fishing Tournament held in Winfield's Doubletree East subdivision. The tournament was rescheduled due to the torrential rains two weeks ago.

Twenty-eight youngsters ranging from 3 to 16 participated in what turned out to be a great day to fish! Approximately 60 parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends attended. Lake Committee Chairman Lou Rinaldo and members Annette Williamson, Ron Johnson, Jim Feltzer, and Bill Williams organized and supervised the event. Josh Elder, another committee member, was unable to attend.

A total of 64 fish were caught. The longest fish was reeled in by 7-year-old Max Hall who landed a 21-½ inch catfish!

Jim Feltzer and Bill Williams did a wonderful job instructing, judging and baiting hooks for the kids. Winners were: Age 10 and older - first place, Nick Ewart, $60; second, Ashton Kristevski, $40; and third Mike San Juan, $20; Age 9 and younger, first, Max Hall $60; second, Madelyn Hussey, $40; and third, Mathew Black, $20.

McDonald's Restaurant gift certificates and prize money was donated by a Doubletree resident. Snacks and refreshments where supplied by the developer.

Road still closed

Motorists are well aware that 109th Avenue has been closed since June, and was scheduled to reopen to traffic in October after a new bridge was constructed.

Lake County officials have notified Winfield that the reopening has been pushed back to Nov. 10, weather permitting.
