Hammond Parks & Recreation will offer $75 off the adult annual membership fee throughout the month at the Hammond Fitness Center. Hammond residents will pay $85 for an adult annual membership; nonresidents will pay $115. Visit the Hammond Civic Center Business Office at 5825 S. Sohl Ave.

Pancake breakfast | Munster

A flood relief pancake breakfast will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at Munster High School in the cafeteria, 8808 Columbia Ave. Donation is $5 per adult, $2 per child. Proceeds will benefit those who are affected by the recent flooding.

Arts, crafts | Highland

The Highland Band Boosters will hold its annual fall arts and craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 8 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9 at Highland Middle School. It is $55 for a 10-by-10 space for two days. No vendors. Electricity is available upon request. There will be crafts, concession stand, silent auction and turkey raffles.

Marine Corps ball | Schererville

The United States Marine Corps Birthday Ball will begin at 6 p.m. Nov. 15 at Banquets at St. George, 528 W. 77th Ave. The event will celebrate 233 years of Marine history. It costs $80 per couple, which includes dinner, open bar and dancing. The event is open to the public.

Turkeyville trip | Munster

Munster Parks and Recreation Department will have a bus trip Nov. 7 to Turkeyville, USA. There will be a homemade turkey buffet along with a Christmas show. View Purdue | Hammond

High school students, recent high school graduates, parents and other adults are invited to explore educational opportunities at a Purdue University Calumet visitation program at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 11. Admission is free at the Calumet Conference Center, at the far south end of campus. Campus tours, including The University Village, Purdue Calumet's student apartment facility, will be held, weather permitting.

Bus trip | Gary

The Gary Public Library's Senior Citizens Friendship Club is sponsoring a bus trip to tour the South Bend Chocolate Factory on Oct. 22. The bus will leave at 8 a.m. from the Village Shopping Center and will leave South Bend at 3:30 p.m. The cost for the trip is $20. Lunch will be at Family Restaurant, at each member's expense. CHILI DINNER | Hobart

Hobart High School Band and Theater departments will host a chili dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Hobart Middle School cafeteria, 705 E. TEACHER AWARD | Lake County

Lake County Solid Waste Management District is presenting the first annual Bella Webb Award for Environmental Education. Teachers can nominate a green teacher by explaining in 500 words or less how the teacher is a model of excellence in environmental education. The winning teacher will be notified by Oct. 17 and honored at the annual Teacher Appreciation Earth Day Dinner on April 22, 2009. The honoree must be willing to be filmed in a few brief segments at school between Oct. 20 and April 1, 2009. All nominations must be submitted by Oct. 10.

HALLOWEEN PARTY | Dyer

Dyer United Methodist Church is holding its annual children's Halloween Party from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 10 at 2016 Church St. Children from 3 years through fifth grade are invited to wear a costume and participate in games, snacks, crafts and spooky stories, and visit the Fear Factor room. GHOSTS | Crown Point

Gather for an evening of paranormal experiences at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Marian Education Center, St. Anthony Medical Center, 1201 S. Main St. Cher Wright, of Paranormal Sciences, will cover basic theories, experiences, equipment used and information about the paranormal field. Wright is the Northwest Indiana Representative of American Ghost Society. It is a nationwide organization networking professional ghost hunters from all over the country. Wright founded her own group, Paranormal Sciences, and teaches classes on the subject matter in Valparaiso, Portage and Merrillville. Admission is free.
