PORTAGE | A spaghetti dinner benefit is planned Saturday for Court Security Officer Lt. Dennis Replin.
The man in charge of security for the Porter County Courthouse is battling liver, pancreatic and stomach cancer. Money raised from the benefit will go to Replin for medical expenses, including chemotherapy.
He has been out of work several weeks because of the illness, but organizers hope he will make an appearance at the fundraiser.
The benefit will run from 6 p.m. to midnight at Oakwood Hall in Woodland Park just south of U.S. 20 on Willowcreek Road in Portage. The 11th Avenue Band, featuring Billy Shelton of the Spaniels, will perform.
Court security officers Jackie Hrezo and Kim Rush have planned the benefit. They have worked with Replin for many years.
Besides the entertainment, there also will be a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, tip boards, bake sale and cash bar. Admission to the event is $10 which includes dinner and entertainment.
"There will also be door prize drawings and other raffles," said Rush. "Area businesses in Portage and Valparaiso have donated items for the event and lawyers have also been very generous."
Cash donations can also be made for Replin at First National Bank.
Call Hrezo or Rush at (219) 465-3663 for information.
