Open house | Griffith

True Light International, 1257 N. Cline Ave, has announced the grand opening of its child care ministry for children 6 weeks through 6 years old. Everyone is invited to attend the open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30 and 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 31. There will be inflatables, concessions and tours of the facilities.

OPEN HOUSE | Hammond

Indiana Tech has scheduled an open house for 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 27 for its new Northwest Indiana campus in the Indiana Building at 5246 Hohman Ave. The community can view the facility and learn about program options both on campus and online. The school offers career-oriented undergraduate and graduate degree programs at an accelerated pace. The Hammond location will offer the organizational leadership degree, as well as other degree options.

Movie night | Highland

Movies in the Park Night is at dusk tonight at the gazebo in Wicker Park. The free event includes a DJ before the movie starts. The original story of Charlie and his adventures with Willy Wonka will be shown. A concession stand will be open.

Movie night | Hammond

Families are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to Pulaski Park, 137th and Sheffield, for Movie Night at 7 tonight. Organized by Hammond Parks and Recreation and the Mayor's office, the movie features a French rat "Little Chef" that teaches his human friend that "Anyone can cook!" Concessions will be available for purchase.

SoccerRama | Schererville

The Schererville Soccer Club will host its annual SoccerRama from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at Stephens Park. SoccerRama is the club's celebration of soccer and the kick-off of a new soccer year. Normal soccer games will be played throughout the day. There will be special food, activities and events throughout the day for club members, families and friends. The Chicago Fire Express will be there with activities for the kids and a special visit by the Chicago Fire Mascot, Sparky.

Teen fitness | Munster

Teens Get Fit, a fitness and nutrition program designed especially for 9- to 15-year-olds will be held from 7 to 8:15 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday, Aug. 25 to Oct. 22, at the Community Hospital Fitness Pointe, 9950 Calumet Ave. Teens Get Fit participants will take part in a highly structured, professionally supervised fitness and education program.The fee is $100. A mandatory parent/teen orientation is held prior to program for new participants.

Meeting | Hammond

The Team Hammond Taxpayers' Group will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Woodmar United Methodist Church, 7320 Northcote Ave. A meet and greet will begin at 6:30 p.m. Items on the agenda will include county budget hearings, outcome of the control board hearing, status of the new high school and the November general elections. Team Hammond meetings are open to any Lake County citizens interested in fiscally responsible government and lower property taxes.

STREET FAIR | Merrillville

Mill Health Campus is hosting a street fair from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 30 for a good cause. The goal is to raise $5,000 for its Memory Walk Team, a group of employees who will walk Sept. 30 in the Alzheimer's Association's Memory Walk at Hidden Lake Park in Merrillville. The street fair, at the facility at 101 W. 87th Ave., will feature a DJ, games for the kids, raffles, craft booths, food vendors and bingo. All proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk.

Tournament | Schererville

The Schererville Parks Department is inviting ages 50 and over to participate in a free "friendly" tournament of volleyball skills, bean bag toss and bunco Sept. 3 at Redar Park and the Schererville Town Hall. Light refreshments will be provided and prizes will be awarded. There are no fees but registration is required.
