SIBLING CLASS | Munster

Plan on attending a sibling class from 10 to 11 a.m. May 24 at Community Hospital, 901 MacArthur Blvd. This class will prepare parents and children (3 to 10 years old) for the arrival of a new sibling. Register for this free class.

BLOOD DRIVE | Hammond

Heartland Blood Center sponsors a drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 7132 Arizona Ave. Appointments may be made. Every donor will receive an Oberweis Moola card for a free quart of ice cream. Donors should be at least 110 pounds, at least 17 years old (16 with written parental permission) and in good health.

'GREASE' AUDITIONS | Highland

Highland Parks Performing Arts Group will hold open auditions for its summer musical, "Grease," from 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 19 and 20 at Lincoln Center, 2450 Lincoln St. Bring a short song with sheet music (an accompanist will be provided) and be dressed for a short dance audition. There are roles for four adults and about 30 high school-age performers. The group also needs tech and stage help. Performances are July 31 through Aug. 9. The director is Dale Kelley.

GOLF SWING | Munster

Golfers! Swing Into Spring will be offered from 5 to 6:30 p.m. May 20 at Fitness Pointe, 9950 Calumet Ave. Community Hospital physical therapists will discuss common golf injuries, prevention techniques and demonstrate a golf specific strength training program guaranteed to improve driving distances. EFFECTIVE PARENTING | Highland

Mental Health America of Lake County offers Systematic Training for Effective Parenting classes to all residents of Northwest Indiana. The class meets from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, May 22 to June 26, at Mental Health America, 9722 Parkway Drive. This class is designed to help parents better understand their child's behavior and find ways to increase effective communication, build cooperation, and find ways to discipline that are effective and make sense. Through class discussion, parents can build a more satisfying and productive connection with their child, which will help enhance the parent/child relationship. Sign up in advance.

WEBKINZ PARTY | Dyer

Dyer Parks and Recreation Department offers a Webkinz party for youths 6 to 11 years old from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 31 at Town Hall, 1 Town Square. Youths can bring their favorite Webkinz or two and head over for an afternoon full of Webkinz fun. Participants will play games, make a craft, and enjoy a snack all themed around Webkinz. Registration deadline is May 26. The fee is $15 for residents and $20 for nonresidents.

CRAFT SALE | Munster

Humane Society Calumet Area will have a sale for crafters, thanks to a large donation of crafts and craft supplies. The sale will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through May 18 at the shelter, 421 45th St. The public is invited.

FAN-TASTIC PROGRAM | Griffith

Summer's Comin' is at 3:30 p.m. May 28 at the Lake County Public Library's Griffith branch, 940 N. Broad St. Schoolchildren in kindergarten and older will make a cool fan to use on a hot summer day. Register.

PARK TRIPS | Highland

Highland Parks and Recreation Department offers trips to a show, a mall and a festival coming up soon. "Barefoot in the Park" can be seen May 29 at Dinner Theatre at Fireside in Fort Atkinson, Wis. Participants leave at 7:30 a.m. from Lincoln Center, 2450 Lincoln St., and return about 6:30 p.m. A school bus will transport attendees. Cost is $112 for residents and $115 for nonresidents. A four-day, three-night trip to Mall of America in Minnesota is June 19 to 22. Leave at 7:30 a.m. from Lincoln Center and arrive about 6:30 p.m. Single is $468, double is $313, triple is $263 and quad is $235 per person. Fully payment must be received by May 27. German Fest is July 27. Leave at 9:30 a.m. from Lincoln Center and return about 11 p.m.; attendees will not see the fireworks. Cost is $47 for residents and $50 for nonresidents. Register for the trips.

VINTAGE WEDDINGS | LaPorte

A preview party for the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum's "Cordially Invited: A Look at Vintage Weddings" will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. May 30 at the museum, 2405 Indiana Ave. There will be food similar to what would have been served at weddings from different time periods. Samples of Queen Victoria's wedding fruitcake with Royal icing and Pioneer stack cake will be included. The public is welcome. Admission is $8 for historical society members and $10 for nonmembers. Make reservations by May 24. The exhibit will feature a display of historic fashions and accessories of long-ago brides and grooms.

CASINO TRIP | Whiting

The Whiting Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a trip June 5 to Four Winds Casino. The bus will leave at 8 a.m. from the Whiting Community Center, 1938 Clark St., and return to Whiting about 4 p.m. The registration deadline is May 16 or sooner if the quota is met. Fee of $25 includes transportation, $10 voucher that can be used for food, retail or slot play and $5 instant slot credit. Register.

GARDEN WALK | Munster

Munster Garden Club presents a garden walk from 4 to 8 p.m. June 27 and noon to 5 p.m. June 28. The walk showcases eight gardens that offer ponds, waterfalls, statuary, container gardening, rain chains, water conservation and flowers galore. Tickets cost $10; children 12 and younger are free. Tickets are available at Dixon's Florist, 919 Ridge Road, from club members or by phone.
