MUNSTER | The Cancer Resource Centre offers free education programs and support groups for those with a cancer diagnosis and their families.
Programs take place at the center, 900 Ridge Road, Suite J. Participants should call to register for any educational or networking group by calling (219) 836-3349.
Yoga meets 10 to 11 a.m. Monday and from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. It's for beginners or accomplished meditators.
Ostomy Networking Group meets from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday. The group will discuss dietary concerns.
Wellness Support Group meets from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. It allows participants to share feelings, receive support and learn ways to cope with having cancer. It's led by a professional.
Family & Friends Support Group gathers from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. Participants learn how to take care of themselves and support loved ones with cancer.
Empowerment Drumming is available from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday. Drumming has been found to reduce stress, increase energy and over-all well being. No previous music experience is needed.
Chi Gong is offered from 10 to 11 a.m. May 22. It's the precursor of Tai Chi that fosters balance, energy, strength and flexibility. Tai Chi is offered from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. May 23. The art is considered "meditation in motion." Classes emphasize balance, posture, breathing techniques, concentration and complete relaxation.
Blood Cancers Support Group meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The group is for adult family/friends and those with a diagnosis of leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma or multiple myeloma.
Concepts in Massage is offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Attendees enjoy the benefits of a 15-minute chair massage. Massage will physically relax the body, reduce mental stress and anxiety and may promote better sleep. A prescription is required prior to attending.
Healing Hearts Grief Support Group meets form 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Participants can join others who have lost a loved one to share experiences, struggles, feelings and triumphs.
Book Club gathers from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. It meets every other month. This month's selection is "The Hummingbird's Daughter" by Luis Alberto Urrea.
Knit One: Nurture Too, meets 12:30 to 2 p.m. May 22. No matter what your knitting or crocheting ability, learn how to make afghan squares, scarves or something simple to start. Yarn and needles provided or participants may bring their own.
Meet the Expert: What's New in Treating Tumors of the Brain is offered from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 22. Dr. Wayel Kaakaji of the Community Healthcare System will lead the program.
