CROWN POINT | A Chicago man convicted of hurting an Indiana state trooper was sentenced to 14 1/2 years in prison Monday.
A Lake County jury convicted Norman Logan, 32, on March 8 of aggravated battery, resisting law enforcement and auto theft.
Jurors heard that on Jan. 16, 2006, as part of an auto theft sting, Indiana State Police put a decoy vehicle on Interstate 80/94 near Cline Avenue. There had been a rash of stolen disabled vehicles in that area, and police were hoping to catch the thieves.
After watching the car for about four hours, Trooper Mark Sanders saw a flat-bed truck pull up and two men, later identified as Logan and Tremal Underwood, 21, got out.
The pair loaded the car onto the truck and drove off, witnesses stated.
Sanders followed them to the ramp heading south on Cline Avenue and the truck pulled over.
In an ensuing scuffle, Logan drove off, and Sanders fell to the pavement, breaking his arm.
