Halloween event | Chicago Heights

Little ghosts and goblins and their parents are invited to enjoy a Halloween extravaganza filled with candy, hay rides, carnival games and more at Prairie State College. The free family event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today in the Prairie Center gym on the college's main campus, 202 S. Halsted St. Attendees are encouraged to dress in costume. The 12th annual Halloween Family Fun Fest is for children through age 12. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The Chicago Heights police and fire departments will make safety presentations about fire and personal safety.

Halloween party | Crete

The Crete Park District is offering a Halloween party for children in kindergarten through sixth grade from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. today. Children in costume can attend for some tricks, treats, games and spooky fun. The fee is $10.

Halloween events | Glenwood

The Glenwood Parks Program will sponsor festivities beginning at 6 p.m. today at the Arquilla Park Fieldhouse. Children can win prizes by entering a costume contest that will be broken into age groups. A bonfire will be conducted in the park by the Glenwood Fire Department. Treats will be provided for the children in the fieldhouse.

Halloween happenings | Homewood

Participants of all ages are invited to attend the annual Halloween Happenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at James Hart Junior High School, 18211 Aberdeen Ave. Bring a carved pumpkin in from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for the opportunity to win a prize in the Jack-O-Lantern Contest: the scariest, the funniest and most unusual. Participants can join in a Halloween Costume Parade and Contest at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Halloween high | South Holland

Thornwood High School teachers will host the third annual Halloween High School from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at Thornwood High School, 17101 S. Park Ave. Teachers and coaches provide a variety of activities free for children 10 and younger who are accompanied by an adult resident of Thornton Township High School District 205. Children old enough can enjoy a journey through the Haunted Hallway. While younger children can enjoy the Halloween Maze. Other activities include trick-or-treating, storytelling, and picture taking. Halloween High School provides a safe and secure Halloween environment with no weather problems, no dangerous streets to cross, and no flashlights to carry.

The Museum of Science and Industry is offering free general admission today. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes, but face masks and costume weapons must be left at coat check.

Fall fireworks | Chicago

Fall fireworks at Navy Pier are at 9 tonight and Nov. 1. Navy Pier's popular fireworks continue to sparkle above the lakefront with breathtaking shows this fall season. Navy Pier fall fireworks are synchronized to themed soundtracks for various fall festivities including A Tribute to Latin Music in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and a special Halloween soundtrack

Haunted House | Chicago

The Fear: Haunted House is from 6 to 11 p.m. now through Nov. 2 at Navy Pier. Admission is $20. Zombie Army Productions is opening the newest "adult theme" haunted attraction at the gates of Navy Pier. Visitors will go through a collection of the darkest creatures known from across the globe. Captured, locked in shipping containers, and waiting to be released on the shores of Chicago, these aggressive beasts will claw through anything, including you, for their freedom. Blessing | Griffith

St. Mary Church, 525 N. Broad St. will hold its annual All Hallowes Eve Blessing of Trick or Treaters at 4 p.m. today in the church. Little ghosts and goblins accompanied by their parents are invited to come receive a special blessing and also receive a treat and special reflective trick or treat bag.

Trunk or Treat | Hobart

Jubilee Worship Center will host a Trunk or Treat event from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the center, 415 N. Hobart Road. Children come through the line of decorated cars to receive lots of candy.We also have a bonfire going to roast hot dogs and make s'mores. Hot chocalate and drinks are also served.

Halloween show | Whiting

"SPELLBOUND! The Halloween Show II" is a Halloween musical set to popular music. It features George Rogers Clark students in full makeup and costumes dancing to songs like "Thriller" and "Beat It." Children and students are encouraged to come dressed in Halloween costumes and will receive a discount price. All children will receive a Halloween goodie bag after the show. Performances are at 6 p.m. today and Nov. 1 and 2 p.m. Nov. 2 in the George Rogers Clark Auditorium, 1921 Davis Ave. Ticket prices are $3 for students and senior citizens and $6 for adults.

Night Walk | Munster

Bieker Woods Night Walk will take place today. Munster Parks and Recreation, Munster Boy Scouts, Munster Girl Scouts and many local residents collaborate to transform Bieker Woods into a scrary, yet fun experience. Tour guides lead participants to new chills and thrills lurking around every turn. Children younger than 8 must be accompanied by an adult. On-site ticket sales begin at 6 p.m. The line formation and ticket sales will be cut off at 8:30 p.m. Parking for this event will be on the west side of the Wilbur Wright Middle School in the back parking lot.
