LOWELL | The second annual 5K run/walk for the Dean A. Frigo Scholarship Foundation will step off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, helping fund a Lowell High School scholarship program as well as school and community projects.

The 33 RDP Dean A. Frigo Foundation is inspired by the life of Dean Frigo, a popular student athlete who was loved by those whose lives he touched.

The RDP Dean A. Frigo Foundation was established in his name after he was killed in an auto accident in 2006. The foundation's purpose is to benefit the students of Lowell High School and the community of Lowell.

The run/walk begins at East Commercial Avenue and Bel Aire Drive (next to Dairy Queen) and finishes at Lowell High School. The route is paved and covers the scenic rural north side of Lowell.

There will be goody bags, and T-shirts to all participants (limited T-shirts for race day registration), with awards for overall male and female winners as well as first, second, and third place age group winners in the 5K run, the first 15 walkers to finish, the top three pre-registered husband-and-wife teams and the top three pre-registered family teams.

Age groups are: 10 & younger, 11 to 14, 15 to 19, 20 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64 and 65 and older. Water will be available at one-mile and two-mile splits and the finish line. The race will be chip timed

Race day registration and packet pick-up will be held from 7 to 8 a.m. Saturday in the south parking lot at LHS, 2051 E. Commercial Ave. Entry fee is $18.

There will also be a free RDP Kids Dash 8 for youths 8 and younger, with registration available on race day.

"Bring your 'can do' attitude for the race, then enjoy the food and music at the finish line in the south parking lot at Lowell High School," said organizer Joe Rodenbucher. "Most importantly, have some fun." The post-race party will feature food, beverages and music.

For more information about the run/walk, call Rodenbucher at (219) 306-5495 or visit www.33rdpfrigofoundation.org. Tax-deductible donations can also be sent to: Nancy Frigo, c/o The 33 RDP Frigo Foundation, 15455 Hendricks St., Lowell, IN 46356.
