Get back in the saddle by attending America's leading equine event sponsored by Most Feed & Garden. This year will be the 17th annual Horse Owners' Workshop Meeting, its largest and most popular equine event. This workshop is a local education and entertainment program that provides horse owners with the most up-to-date information.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. March 27 at the Illinois Lutheran High School, 1610 Main St. in Crete. More than a dozen trade show reps will answer questions and offer advice including local John Deere rep Kaj Moyer from Ken's Lawn and Leisure.

* Don't count those eggs just yet because the Easter Bunny is not done making his rounds. Crete Country Market, 1371 Main St., will have an Easter egg hunt starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Refreshments and snacks will be served from 7 to 9 a.m. and it is open to children ages 3 to 12. Every child will receive a prize and some complete Easter baskets will be given out. * Build a castle fortress ... using only cardboard boxes and your imagination. The Calumet Memorial Park District's Fort Building is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday for kids in first through eighth grades. The fee is $5 per participant and includes a hot dog lunch. Register. For more information, call (708) 862-6443.

* Would you like to improve the economic well-being of agriculture and enrich the quality of farm life? Start learning from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Crete Town Hall, 1367 Wood St. The Will County Farm Bureau is sponsoring a Drainage Education and Information meeting and all are welcome.

* The Calumet Memorial Park District will host Kite Flying from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 27 at Memorial Park. First- through eighth- graders will make, decorate and fly their own kites. Bring lunch for a picnic. The fee is $3 per participant and includes materials. Register. Call (708) 862-6443.

* For more than 50 years the Steger Kiwanis has sponsored a pancake breakfast. The next one is from 7 a.m. to noon March 30 at the VFW, 34 W. 34th St. in Steger. Village President Lou Sherman will mix pancake batter, Chamber President Frank Bambino will fry eggs, Village Trustee Tom Seehausen will grill sausages, Boy Scouts will bus tables and Kiwanis members will pitch in. Tickets are $5 each; ages 4 and younger eat free.

* My friends at American legion Post 1291 are having a spaghetti dinner from 2 to 6 p.m. April 5 at Main Street Exchange. All profits go toward items for residents at Manteno Veterans Home. Call Dave at (708) 672-8336.
