Police look for possible link in three robberies
Police are investigating whether the same man may have robbed three Indiana Harbor women in as many days.
One woman reported that she left the Western Union at 1402 E. Columbus Drive on Wednesday morning to find a man inside her van who grabbed her purse and ran off toward Euclid Avenue.
Another resident told police she was walking in the 4000 block of Main Street at 5 p.m. Tuesday when a man came up from behind her and grabbed her purse before running westbound on Columbus Drive.
On Monday, a senior citizen reported that she was crossing the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Broadway at 12:30 p.m. when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her purse.
All three women gave the same description of the suspect: a dark-complected black man wearing dark jeans, a black jacket and a black hat.

Intruders move in while senior away for holidays
A northside senior citizen who stayed with relatives for an extended Thanksgiving Day visit came home Wednesday to find that burglars had been living in her house.
The 76-year-old resident told police there were beer bottles, food wrappers, drug paraphernalia, clothing and a kitten inside her home in the 4700 block of Northcote Avenue, which weren't there when she left.
Missing were an antique grandfather clock, a computer, miscellaneous personal papers and clothing, and an extensive collection of Precious Moments figurines.
The resident said that every room in the house had been ransacked, and the debris would have to be cleaned up before she could give a complete account of what might have been taken.
Crime scene investigators were at the home collecting fingerprints and taking pictures of the damage Thursday afternoon.

High school hosts vigil to honor crash victim
A candlelight vigil will be held at 9 tonight in the parking lot of Griffith High School for 18-year-old Kyle Gordon.
Gordon, a former Griffith High School student, was killed at 9:15 p.m. Sunday in a one-car crash in the 900 block of West Glen Park Avenue.
He enjoyed riding dirt bikes and motorcycles and spending time with his friends.

Town seeks applicants to fill board vacancies
The town of Griffith is seeking applicants to fill openings that may be available on various boards and commissions.
Those with potential openings are the Police Commission, Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Park Board, Emergency Medical Services, Sanitary Board, Economic Development Commission, Redevelopment Commission and Stormwater Board.
For some board and commissions, state law requires a mix of Democrats and Republicans. Political affiliation must be noted on resumes or letters of application.
Prospective candidates should submit their resumes to the Town Council, 111 N. Broad St., Griffith, IN 46319, or by e-mail to griffithtowncouncil@griffith.in.gov.
All applications must be received by Dec. 19.

Texas Hold'em tourney coming to Elks Lodge
The Highland Elks Lodge hosts a Texas Hold'em tournament Dec. 12 at the lodge, 3120 45th St.
Sign-up is at 6 p.m., and the tourney starts at 7 p.m.
Those who register by 10 p.m. Wednesday earn $500 in bonus chips. Register at the Elks hall between noon and 10 p.m. or call (219) 922-8253. There is a $60 entry fee with limited rebuys.
HAMMOND
State wraps up work on resurfacing U.S. 12
The resurfacing construction project on U.S. 12 from the Illinois state line to U.S. 41 is now complete, the Indiana Department of Transportation said.
A small bridge over Wolf Lake Channel along the stretch of U.S. 12 also was replaced.
Construction started in June. The improved road is expected to enhance motorist safety and mobility. U.S. 12 is open to unrestricted traffic, excluding any changes after final inspection.
NORTH TOWNSHIP
Township giving away clothes for flood victims
Household and clothing will be given away to aid flood victims from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Saturday at the Wicker Park Pavilion in Highland.
Items include clothing of all sizes, from infant to plus sizes, and household linens and furniture.
Valid photo identification is required.
