CROWN POINT | If you haven't been on your best driving behavior in the city, now might be a good time to start.
Crown Point Police Chief Pete Land announced Wednesday that the Police Department will start a traffic enforcement program that will target citizen-reported areas with traffic safety issues such as speeding vehicles and intersections where stop signs aren't obeyed.
"In talking to residents, their No. 1 issue is traffic-related issues," Land said.
Land instituted a similar program a few years ago and said he had about two pages of locations that citizens felt needed to be addressed. He expects a similar number with this year's program, and asks citizens to inform the department of areas that need the special patrols. Citizens will be asked to give their name, the location and the time of day they feel is the biggest problem.
He said each location will be recorded and an officer will be at each location at least once.
The enforcement schedule will be set within the next week, he said.
To inform police about a problem location, contact Deputy Chief Jim Janda at (219) 663-2131, ext. 112 or e-mail Land at pland@crownpoint.in.gov.
