RELATIONSHIPS | Ogden Dunes

There is a free workshop on marriages and relationships from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Ogden Dunes Community Church, 116 Hillcrest Drive, across from South Shore train station. The workshop is presented by Roy Thomas, licensed clinical social worker from Samaritan Counseling Center in Munster. He is a practicing marriage and family therapist with 22 years of experience. TUITION AWARD | Northwest Indiana

Catholic Order of Foresters, headquartered in Naperville, Ill. has awarded $25,000 in tuition reimbursements to several COF youth members attending Catholic schools from kindergarten through high school. Local winners selected in a random drawing to receive $250 each include COF St. Mary Court 293 member Avery Arnold, of Crown Point, son of Keith and Josephine Arnold and a student at Andrean High School in Merrillville; COF St. Mary Court 1877 member Jacob Rossman, of Griffith, son of John and Donna Rossman and a student at St. Mary School in Griffith, and COF St. Mathias Court 102 member Mary Buksa, of Munster, daughter of Daniel and Julia Buksa and a student at St. Thomas More School.

KICKOFF MASS | Valparaiso

A Religious Education Kickoff Mass & Ice Cream Social will be held at noon Sept. 14 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1855 Harrison Blvd. Religious education classes begin Sept. 15, 16 and 17, and other important upcoming dates are Sept. 19 for the Knights of Columbus Spaghetti Supper in the social hall, Sept. 19 to 21 for the St. Paul Parish 150th Anniversary Mission, and Sept 21, known as Catechetical Sunday, when all catechists and aides will be commissioned at the 10 a.m. Mass.

SING & ACT | Cedar Lake

Youngsters in kindergarten through fifth grade who love to sing and act are invited to join 'Kids of the Kingdom' at Community Bible Church, 13620 U.S. 41. This year's Christmas play is a fun-filled musical called 'Cookin' up Christmas.' Rehearsals will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays beginning Sept. 15. Cost is $25 per child and includes a T-shirt and CD. Call to register.

BIBLE STUDY | Highland

Women of all ages are invited to join the 35th year of coffee break for women and story hour for children ages 3 to 5 at Second Christian Reformed Church of Highland, 5th Street and Ridge Road, across from Highland's Main Square Park. A nursery is provided for children under 3. The Coffee Break Bible Study/Story Hour program meets from 9:45 to 11 a.m. Tuesday mornings and 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evenings. Women will relax and enjoy the Coffee Break hour which includes fellowship, refreshments, inter-faith Bible study, and support for one another. Children in Story Hour will have fun singing songs, listening to stories, and participating in a variety of activities. Register in advance or attend 'Get Acquainted Day' which is at 9:45 a.m. Sept. 16 or 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 for the evening class.

DINNER & AUCTION | Lowell

A Pork Chop Dinner & Silent Auction is set for 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at First United Methodist Church, 520 E. Commercial Ave. The auction begins at 4 and ends at 6:30. Tickets, available at the door, cost $8 for a grilled chop, baked potato, apple sauce, green beans, tossed salad, roll with butter, dessert and drink, and $3 for an additional pork chop. Proceeds benefit the church's camping ministry.

ANNIVERSARY TIME | Porter Twp.

Salem United Methodist Church, at 753 W. 350 S., will celebrate 164 years of ministry Sept. 21 following the 10 a.m. worship service. All pastors who previously served Salem, all past and present members, friends, and neighbors are invited to join in a day of celebration that will have a beach theme. There will be a hog roast, hamburgers and hot dogs and everyone is asked to bring a dish to share. There will be musical entertainment, games for all ages, a Moonwalk, snow cones, cotton candy, and a ‘Dunk the Pastor' tank.
