Wine tasting | Lansing
Trinity Lutheran Church is hosting a fundraiser from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Lansing Country Club, 186th and Wentworth Avenue. The wine tasting event will benefit the Guatemala mission team. Tickets cost $20 each and are available at the school and church offices.

Flea market | Chicago
The Chicago Park District's Mann Park, 13000 S. Exchange in Chicago's Hegewisch neighborhood, is looking for vendors for its annual outdoor flea market to be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 13. Purchase space by Sept. 1 for $15. After Sept. 1, it will be $20. Vendors provide their own tables.

Steak fry | South Holland
New Hope Center is holding its annual steak fry Sept. 7 at Holy Ghost Gymnasium, 700 E. 170th St. Food will be served between noon and 2 p.m. Food is being provided and prepared by Calumet City's Outback Steakhouse. Menu includes 11-ounce sirloin steak, seasoned wild rice, Caesar salad and cheesecake. Cold pop and water are also being served, compliments of New Hope Center.
Entertainment is once again donated by The Kingsnakes, a group of musicians who perform the "Chicago Blues."
Tickets are $20 each, and will be on sale at New Hope Center's Main Campus, 1624 E. 154th St. in Dolton. Only 250 tickets will be sold. Proceeds will benefit more than 375 persons with disabilities receiving services from New Hope Center.

Open house | Munster
Nordikids Musiklubb of Northwest Indiana will host its annual open house at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at Ridge United Methodist Church at 35th and Columbia Avenue. All are welcome to learn about the fall semester, upcoming holiday performances and meet members.
Nordikids is an organization for children of all ages and their families who are interested in learning and celebrating the cultural heritage of the Nordic countries through fellowship, song, dance, language and crafts. Nordikids meets weekly and performs yearly at Scandinavian Festivals throughout the region.

Outdoor worship | Hammond
The First United Methodist Church of Hammond will have its annual outdoor worship service at 10:30 a.m. today at the church, 6635 Hohman Ave. Guests can bring a lawn chair and carry in dinner. The men of the church will grill hot dogs and hamburgers to accompany the food. A praise team, contemporary Christian music performed by the youth and old favorite hymns will be featured. Following the lunch, there will be pony rides, bounce house and pinatas for children.

SUNDAY SCHOOL KICKOFF | Munster
Westminster Presbyterian Church invites the public to a back to school kickoff and picnic today at 8955 Columbia Ave. The event starts with a program during worship services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. to kick off the 2008-09 curriculum for children and youth of the church. The youngsters will leave worship for fellowship with their teachers and friends. Families are then invited for a picnic with hot dogs and a giant bouncy house from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are not required.

Wounded healers | Highland
Wounded Healers grief support program will begin its fall series from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at St. James Church, Kennedy Avenue and 45th Street. There will be separate groups for death of a spouse, death of a parent or sibling, death of a child or grandchild and other relationships. The suicide survivors support group will also begin sessions. Each of the groups is led by a trained, certified facilitator. The program is free.
