MERRILLVILLE | Merrillville police arrested two Gary men early Monday morning after they attempted to rob a gas station at gun point.
No one was injured.
Merrillville Detective Joe Cooper said officers were called to Shell Oil, 6101 Broadway at 11:59 p.m. Sunday night.
Cooper said the two men walked into the business and demanded cash from a lone clerk at the gas station. One of the men displayed a gun. Cooper said there was a brief struggle between the armed suspect and the clerk, and the gun was dropped, Cooper said, adding police recovered the weapon. The two suspects fled on foot, he said.
Police found the two suspects after a short search, Cooper said, in a wooded area about three blocks east of the gas station.
Both men are being held at the Lake County Jail.
Police declined to release the suspects' names until formal charges of attempted armed robbery are filed Tuesday.
