Copper piping reported stolen from two sites
Thieves swiped about $1,000 of copper piping from two homes under construction Monday night, Crown Point police said.
At both properties, the piping already had been installed, police said.
The first property, at 10300 Illinois St., had about $600 to $700 of piping stolen, causing a leak into the basement, police said. The second home, at 1840 Kleven Lane, had about $300 worth of copper piping taken, police said.
Crown Point Deputy Police Chief Eldon Strong said there have been about 20 reported cases of thefts at construction sites within the city in the past several months.
