Bake sale and rummage sale is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Griffith Church of God, 630 N. Jay St. There will be hot dogs, chili dogs, chips and soft drinks. Spaces that are 10-by-10 can be rented for $10 per day.

SALE & WASH | Highland

A huge yard sale, bake sale and car wash will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Suburban Bible Church, 3010 41st St. All proceeds will be used to support the church's two summer mission teams. One team of 40 will be going to work with Rio Bravo Ministries in Renosya, Mexico, June 20-26, and another 50-member team will be working with three different Chicago ministries, June 30- July 3.

CAR WASH | Hammond

Raise the Roof car was is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in the lot at St. John Bosco Church, 7113 Columbia Ave. Cars will be washed for $6 and trucks and vans will be washed for $8. Proceeds will be used toward a new roof for the school. It's sponsored by the children and Youth Committee of St. John Bosco.

MOTHER'S DAY LUNCH | Hobart

A Mother's Day Lunch will be held at 1 p.m. today in the fellowship hall at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3561 Randolph St. Tickets, available at the door, are $6 for adults and $4 for ages 6 to 12; younger children will eat free.

WOMEN IN ISLAM | Gary

Al Fahim Center for Islamic Development will present "Women in Islam" from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. today at the Gary Public Library's main branch auditorium,220 W. 5th Ave. The first program in an Islam in America lecture series, guest speaker Shaykh Ramee Muhammad will conduct a public forum on the role of women in Islam.

BREAKFAST BUFFET | Hammond

St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society presents an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet from 8:30 a.m. to noon May 18 at the church dining room, 937 Merrill St. The breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, bacon, egg casserole, oatmeal, fruit, juice, coffee or tea and dessert. Cost is $4 for children 5 and older and $8 for adults.

PASTOR RETURNS | Highland

Paige Cantwell, former associate pastor to Immanuel United Church of Christ, 2201 Azalea Drive, will return May 18 to receive the gift of a quilt that the Immanuel family has assembled as part of her retirement gift. Cake will be served during coffee fellowship in her honor. Pastor Cantwell will also be returning to the pulpit at the 9:30 a.m. service June 13 as a guest pastor.

DECADE OF SERVICE | Lansing

Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Lansing is celebrating 50 years. The fifth decade of the parish, 1998 to 2008, will be represented at services May 18 by former pastor Calvin Hoogendoorn. The church is at 3500 Glenwood-Lansing Road. Former parishioners and the public is welcome.

HEALER TALKS | Calumet City

International speaker Bosede Bakarey, a full-time prayer-based healer using the Christian Science system of healing, will present an inspirational talk titled "How do you see yourself?" at 4 p.m. May 18 at TF Center for Academics and Technology, 1605 Wentworth Ave. During her talk Bakarey references the Bible, along with science and health with "Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Bakarey will share experiences that show how healing is possible through seeing yourself as God sees you, feeling love up close and personal. Bakarey speaks internationally as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. Bakarey lives in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, Africa.

PARISH DANCE | Munster

Our Lady of Grace Parish of Highland honors its parishioners and alumni with a Mass and dinner dance May 24. Mass is at 4:30 p.m. and dinner and dancing will be at 6 p.m. at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road. Tickets cost $40 per person and may be bought at the school office. Our Lady of Grace is especially honoring the class of 1958 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of graduation from school. In addition, the classes of 1968, 1978, 1988 and 1998 will be celebrated.

CHOSEN PEOPLE | Lansing

Igor Swiderski, a representative of Chosen People Ministries, will speak during the 10 a.m. worship service May 25 at Grace Reformed Church, 2740 Indiana Ave.

Chosen People Ministries was founded in 1894 by Leopold Cohn, a Hungarian rabbi who came to believe that Jesus was the Messiah of Israel. From humble beginnings in Brooklyn, New York, Chosen People Ministries has grown into a worldwide ministry with outreach centers in Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, France, Germany, Israel, Mexico, Ukraine and the United States. In stressing the Jewish roots of Christian faith, Chosen People Ministries hopes to make the message of the Messiah more accessible to Jewish people and also to help Christian believers achieve a greater appreciate of the Jewish basis of their own faith traditions.
