LANSING | Authorities are looking for information about a woman who police say racked up more than $21,238 on three stolen credit cards within four hours in Lansing, Schererville and Dolton. (Video)

A teacher from St. Ann School in Lansing had her credit cards stolen, Lansing police Detective Chuck Weeden said. Police are not sure when or where the theft occurred, but the illegal shopping spree took place June 2, he said.

The suspect is described as a black female more than 6 feet tall in her late 30s, carrying a black-and-white patterned handbag. She was not a small woman, he said.

"We believe she is wearing a wig," Weeden said, adding that a witness spotted several wigs inside her car.

The case may be related to other incidents in Indiana, he said.

"She did a lot of damage," he said. "She does this for a living."

The woman started the day in a silver Chrysler 300M with a sunroof and later switched to a green minivan, possibly a Dodge Caravan or Ford Aerostar, Weeden said. The minivan was a late 1990s or early 2000s model, he said.

Weeden said the woman used the cards to make the following purchases.

At 1:25 p.m., she bought a Yorkshire terrier and take-home pet kit with a cage for $2,160 at Petland in Lansing.

At 1:47 p.m., she spent about $65 on gas at a Shell station in Dolton and then spent $5.56 at White Castle.

At 2:52 p.m., the woman made a second purchase at White Castle for $3.77.

At 3:57 p.m., she bought $703 worth of clothes at T.J. Maxx in Schererville.

At 4:18 p.m., the woman bought $2,500 in gift cards at Sears Hardware in Schererville.

At 4:49 p.m., she returned to Lansing and tried to buy $13,050 in jewelry from Cole & Young Co. but was declined. She then went to Gus Bock's Ace Hardware and purchased $318 worth of home locks.

At 5:15 p.m., the woman purchased $2,250 worth of merchandise from R&R Discount Golf in Lansing.

At 5:21 p.m., she tried to purchase $1,500 in gift cards from Walgreens in Lansing but was declined due to suspicious activity and exceeding the credit limit.

At 5:40 p.m., the woman tried to charge $20.42 at Quizno's in Lansing but was denied and had to pay cash.

While at the jewelry store, the suspect was with a black male who appeared to be 17 to 19 years old and 5 feet 10 to 6 feet tall with a thin build, glasses and very short haircut, Weeden said.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to contact Weeden at (708) 895-7157.
