PORTER | A body identified as that of a missing Miller boater was found washed ashore Saturday morning on Kemil Beach, according to an Indiana Department of Natural Resources officer.

Steven Banks, 59, is believed to have gone sailing Wednesday from the beach near his home in Gary's Miller neighborhood. He was reported missing after not showing up for work on Thursday.

On Saturday morning, a National Park Service ranger was flagged down by two early morning hikers who reported finding a human body on the beach within the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

DNR Officer Gene Davis said the body was identified as Banks, and he was wearing a lifejacket.

The night Banks went missing, severe storms went through the area, and heavy seas have been present during the full-scale search of Lake Michigan, Davis said.

The actual cause of death will be determined by autopsy.
