About Cameron: Born July 21, 1997. Son of Scott and Suzanne Jacobs, of Hammond. Grandson of Peggy Hack, of Schererville.
Accomplishments: Cameron Jacobs is a fifth-grader at Harding Elementary School.
An honor student earning As and Bs, his favorite subject is science. Jacobs' curious nature prompted his interest in Lego Robotics. He was part of the team last year and this year when the mission was to build a robot with the plastic blocks enabling it to accomplish specific missions. The project also had participants researching a topic facing the world, this year climate connections and how to stop global warming. Jacobs and others wrote a play about the research. The team placed first in teamwork at this year's qualifier and qualified for state competition. "Everything is really fun about it," he said, adding he plans to become involved again next year at the middle school level. Jacobs recently played tone bells for a school program. He takes drum lessons weekly at Beach House Studio in Hammond and is a four-year student at a martial arts school in Highland. He takes classes three times a week and has earned a black belt in tae kwon do and jujutsu.
Personal hero: "Barack Obama. I think he's a really good leader and I look up to him."
What I read: "I like to read some of the Harry Potter books. I'm finishing the last one now."
What I do for fun: "Mostly martial arts and Lego Robotics. When I get home I like to go outside and play with my friends."
People might be surprised to know: "I'm a double black belt."
