Police are investigating the shooting death of a Gary man whose body was found early Sunday near an abandoned home.
Theon Cherry, 50, of the 600 block of Martin Luther King Drive, died of a gunshot wound to the head in an apparent homicide, a Lake County coroner's office spokesman said.
Police were called to the 400 block of Jackson Street in Gary just after 8 a.m., where Cherry was pronounced dead a short while later, the spokesman said.
A neighbor spotted the body as he walked to his car Sunday morning, Gary police Cpl. Gabrielle King said.
Sgt. Larry Robertson is handling the investigation. He can be reached at (219) 881-7545, King said.
The crime Sunday followed the wounding of three people in two separate shootings Friday, King said.
A 15-year-old was shot in the chest about 10:40 p.m. in the 600 block of Washington Street.
The boy told police he was walking with friends when an unknown man pulled a semiautomatic weapon and began firing. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital, King said.
Shortly afterward, at about 10:55 p.m., Antwan Jordan, 31, and Roger McCane, 28, were shot while they were sitting in a car in the 2700 block of West Seventh Place, King said.
Jordan was shot in the foot, and McCane was shot in the buttocks, King said.
They told police an unknown person began firing at them. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, King said.
