COOK COUNTY

Cook County Sheriff's Police will visit the homes of registered, convicted sex offenders today in unincorporated Cook County and Ford Heights as a reminder they are barred from handing out candy to children and to update their registration information. Officers will hit the streets in an effort to conduct their checks before the end of the school day when children often trick-or-treat on their way home. The checks aim to ensure offenders are complying with Illinois law and provide officers an opportunity to gather updated information.

BURNHAM

Village offers tips for Halloween night fun

Burnham officials stress safety while children trick-or-treat tonight.

Children are allowed to trick-or-treat from 3 to 7 p.m. in Burnham, Trustee Brenda Greer said. Parents should remind their children to walk carefully between homes, only visit the homes of people they know and throw away suspicious-looking treats. Costumes should be flame-retardant and be bright in color to make children visible to drivers, Greer said.

Village Clerk Nancy Dobrowski asked homeowners to turn on porch lights for trick-or-treaters and to report any suspicious adult activity to police.
