High schoolers to help city go green with bins
Crown Point High School athletes will join city employees to assemble recycling bins Wednesday. The athletes will receive service hours for their help.
The bins are part of the city's 21st Century Recycling program, a waste reduction program that helps with household recycling.
The students will be assembling the bins at the Crown Point Wastewater Treatment Plant, 1321 Merrillville Road, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Police: Two dogs were victims of negligence
Joseph R. Beliles, 30, of Hobart, was charged through Hobart City Court with abandonment or neglect of an animal, police Lt. Steve Houck said.
Police on Thursday morning were called to Beliles' house in the 1000 block of West 41st Avenue in reference to a foul smell.
Once inside the house they found a large dog attacking a smaller dog, Houck said.
In addition, both dogs were malnourished, and the house was filled with feces, Houck said.
Both dogs were removed and taken to the Hobart Humane Society.

Home break-in reported; tools and jackets taken
A resident in the 3500 block of East 69th Avenue on Thursday reported someone broke into his house, police said.
Items taken during the break-in included a tool chest filled with $6,000 worth of tools and four Harley Davidson jackets valued at $1,800.
