MARKHAM | Two Bloom Township High School basketball players were indicted on armed robbery and kidnapping charges Thursday.
Rajsaun Thompson, 17, of Chicago Heights, and Brian Conway, of Ford Heights, were indicted on charges of armed robbery, aggravated kidnapping, kidnapping, aggravated unlawful restraint and unlawful restraint, said Andy Conklin, Cook County state's attorney's office spokesman. Thompson and Conway are scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 18, he said.
The robbery happened Oct. 13 at 225 W. Joe Orr Road in Chicago Heights, Conklin said.
A man and a woman were standing at an automated teller machine when Conway, Thompson and an unidentified third suspect approached, Conklin said. Thompson grabbed the woman and pushed her between two vans, he said.
"Conway displays a silver handgun and places the victim into a headlock, takes him to the ATM and demands he takes money out," Conklin said. "(When the) victim can't find his debit card, Conway fires a shot into the air. In the meantime, Thompson and (the other suspect) with the female in between vans make her take off her clothes when she says she doesn't have any money, to prove it."
When Thompson saw a police car drive by, he yelled at the others, and they fled, Conklin said.
Thompson was a 2007-08 Illinois Boys All-Area selection for Thornton Fractional South High School in Calumet City in his junior year. He transferred to Bloom Township for his senior year. Conway was an All-Area Honorable Mention selection during his junior year at Bloom Township.
