SPAGHETTI DINNER | Hammond

A spaghetti dinner is planned for 4 to 7 p.m. May 21 at St. Casimir School, 4329 Cameron Ave. Tickets cost $5.50 for adults and $2.50 for children 12 and younger. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and dessert. Carryouts are available for 50 cents more.

GOLF SCRAMBLE | Dyer

The annual golf scramble will be held by Suburban Bible Church in Highland on June 14 at Longwood Country Club near Dyer. Proceeds will benefit two summer mission trips to Mexico and Chicago. Check-in starts at 6:30 a.m. with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. This is a four-person scramble open to all men and women. Prizes will be awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin, etc. The cost, which includes lunch, is $60 per person if registered by May 31 and $65 on June 1 and afterward if space permits. COMMENCEMENT | Hammond

More than 300 Calumet College of St. Joseph graduates will march at commencement ceremonies at noon May 19 at the Bishop Noll Institute field house, 1519 Hoffman St. The college graduates students in May, August and December but holds commencement only in May. This year, the college will graduate about 473 students, including 102 from the master's degree program, 320 from the baccalaureate degree program and 23 from the associate degree program. The college will award an honorary degree to Sen. Richard Lugar, who has faithfully served the people of Indiana and the United States by his integrity and leadership in the Senate for the past 32 years. Commencement will be preceded by a Baccalaureate Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1445 Hoffman Street, just west of Bishop Noll.

HOLLYWOOD MYSTERY | Schererville

Zen Studios and Generate Sales and Marketing will host a murder mystery at 6:30 p.m. May 17 at Zen Studios, 40 E. Joliet St. Schererville Chamber of Commerce members, guests and friends will participate in the event, which is open to the public. Admission is by donation. Proceeds will benefit Arc BRIDGES. Attendees are invited to dress the part of a guest at a 1930 movie premier of "Dazzled to Death." Food will be served, and a raffle is planned. Fake money also can be bought to be used all evening for hypnotists and to cast votes for best actor/actress. A limited number of tickets remain; make a reservation.

ART LEAGUE | Hammond

Lacare Art League meeting is at 6:30 p.m. May 19 at the Hammond Public Library's Howard branch, 7047 Grand Ave. The date has been changed because of Memorial Day. The demonstrator will be Ryan Wanke with Sharpeye Framing Co. from Michigan City. He will answer framing questions as the league prepares for summer art fairs. He will be bring samples of his frames and mats. Refreshments will be served, and a raffle will take place. Visitors are welcome.

RABBI VISITS | Munster

Raphael Ostrovsky, a rabbi from Congregation Beth Israel, will talk about Judaism during the service at 10:30 a.m. May 18 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 8955 Columbia Ave. His talk is titled Jewish Law and Contemporary Values Collide: Examples from Revolutionary Era America.

BOOK CLUB | Schererville

Multicultural Wellness, a free program at the Hammond Public Library, shows adults how to maintain good health. The session is at 2:30 p.m. May 21 at the library, 564 State St. Shelia George, executive director of the Multicultural Wellness Network, also explains the effects of diabetes and other illnesses, and the importance of organ donation.

CONVENTION OPENS | Merrillville

Hammond Letter Carriers, Merged Branch 580, National Association of Letter Carriers AFL-CIO, will host the Indiana State Association of Letter Carriers' 109th Convention on May 16 at The Radisson at Star Plaza Hotel, Interstate 65 and U.S. 30. State Senator Sue Landske, R-Cedar Lake, will present a proclamation declaring May 16 as Letter Carriers Day statewide. Also attending will be State President Tony Flora, National Business Agent Patrick C. Carroll and representatives for U.S. Senator Evan Bayh and U.S. Rep. Peter Visclosky.
