MAGIC BOOK | Crown Point
Crown Point Community Library presents "The Magic Book" at 6:30 p.m. May 16 at the Marian Education Center at St. Anthony Medical Center, 1201 S. Main St. This event is free to all ages. Crown Point Youth Soccer Club will hold its first fundraiser, a Shop & Share event May 19, 20 and 21 with Jewel Food Store, 1276 N. Main St. Club members are distributing identification slips that shoppers present at the cash register and Jewel will donate five percent of the total bill, excluding taxes and Osco merchandise, to the soccer club. Proceeds will fund the hiring of professional instructors from the Chicago Fire to teach players and advance their knowledge of the game, as well as new goals, nets, paint for the fields, and new uniforms for the fall travel club. RELAY IDOL | Crown Point
Relay of Life is holding a Relay Idol Contest for all singers and performers 17 and younger at 6:30 p.m. May 17 at The Coffee Cup,107 N. Main St. Using an American Idol format, proceeds from the event will be donated to Relay for Life, a community fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Registration begins at 6 p.m. The top 3 contestants will advance to the final round and will perform June 20 at the Relay for Life of South Lake County at the Lake County Fairgrounds. There is a $5 cover charge to attend, which includes a beverage.

Hobart Little League is accepting signups for its Senior Division, accepting youths ages of 15 to 18 who reside in Hobart and are interested in playing baseball. BASEBALL LEAGUE | Hobart
Summer T-Ball/Coach Pitch Baseball League is open to boys and girls ages 3-4 and 5-7 at the Hobart Family YMCA, 601 W. 40th Place. Register by May 31; cost is $30 for members and $60 for nonmembers. ART EXHIBIT | Lowell
The Children's Room of the Lowell Public Library has become a wide-screen gallery of art as masterpieces created by Tri-Creek area students are being displayed for the Friends of the Library 30th Annual Student Art Exhibit through May 16 at 1505 E. Commercial Ave. Students in kindergarten through grade 5 from Lake Prairie, Oak Hill, and Three Creeks elementary schools submitted more than 300 works of art. "We have invited the community residents to come to the library during the exhibit week and view the art that comes from the imagination and creativity of these young students," said Library Director Sandy Morgan. "From the humorous to the poignant, the self-expression exhibited by these students in their work is a pleasure to view." The Friends of the Library held a reception for the young artists and their family members May 12 and each participating student received a certificate of achievement. Cake, punch and coffee were served and a drawing for art supplies was held for all
children attending.

MINI DAY CAMP | Hobart
Register children for a Preschool Mini Day Camp for preschoolers of all abilities this summer at the Hobart Family YMCA, 601 W. 40th Place. The YMCA is collaborating with the Center for Possibilities Cerebral Palsy of Northwest Indiana to offer this mini summer day camp for ages 3 to 5. The goal is to provide a fun-filled camp from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, June 2 through 13, while meeting the needs of all campers. Included in the daily schedule will be games, crafts, gym time, outdoor time, music, cooking, free play, story time, and snacks. A $20 nonrefundable registration fee, which includes a T-shirt, memory scrapbook, awards and pizza party, is due at registration. Camp fees of $45 for a Y-member and $60 for a nonmember will also be due at registration. The Bubel/Aiken Foundation will provide additional funding and training. Camp filled up quickly last year so families are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible. Class size is limited

CHILDREN'S CHOIR | NW Ind.
Southlake Children's Choir will hold open auditions for membership. Auditions are open to children who will enter first to ninth grade in the fall. No preparation is needed to audition; children just need to love to sing. Open auditions are set 3:30 to 6 p.m. May 14 and May 16 at Portage High School. Northern Indiana Storm Cheer and Dance Association holds its seventh season registration for cheerleaders and lift men 5 to 19 years old from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17 and 24 at St. John Township Center, 1515 W. Lincoln Highway. A discount is given for May signups. The nonprofit program, part of the nationwide Amateur Athletics Union, draws youths from St. John, Schererville, Dyer, Crown Point, Griffith and Highland.

A Grand Opening Open House will be held from noon to 4 p.m. May 17 and 18 at Bright Minds Preschool, inside Hobart Assembly of God, 7545 E. Ridge Road. Steel Wheels BMX will present an open house for all ages from noon to 5 p.m. May 17 at the Steel Wheels BMX Track at Imagination Glen Park, 2275 McCool Road. The open house will serve as a fundraising event for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America. Events throughout the day will include raffles, clinics, practice sessions, bike maintenance clinics, free bike repairs, face painting and Noah's Ark Stuffed Animal Wagon. The open house will be followed by the annual Race for Life at 5:30 p.m. Anyone can compete in the Race for Life. All race fees collected go toward the Race for Life donation fund.
