Process engineering is focus of Sept. 8 event
Wednesday is the deadline to register for the Hammond INnovation Center's first workshop.
The workshop on sales process engineering will be conducted by Justin Roff-Marsh of Australia, a world renowned management consultant specializing in process engineering.
The workshop is presented in league with Blaine's Business Services Inc.
The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Hammond INnovation Center, 5209 Hohman Ave.
The fee of $150 includes continental breakfast, lunch and a copy of Roff-Marsh's book, "Re-engineering the Sales Process."

Funding requests must be submitted by Oct. 1
The Hammond Department of Planning and Development is preparing its budget for the 2009 Community Block Grant, Emergency Shelter Grant and Community Housing Development organizations' programs.
Any agency that wants to request funding from those allocations will have to fill out an application.
Applications are available beginning Tuesday. They must be completed and returned to the department, 649 Conkey St., by Oct. 1. Applications received later than Oct. 1 will not be considered for funding.

Music under the stars offered Friday at park
Schererville Parks host "Evening Under the Stars"with big band music performed by Ron Smolen's Orchestra from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at Redar Park.
Admission is free. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Grimmer Middle School.

MUNSTER
Sept. 19 is deadline for Citizens Police Academy
The Munster Police Department is inviting people to participate in its 2008 Citizens Police Academy.
The program, which continues for eight weeks, allows citizens to get a bird's eye view of the duties and responsibilities of a police officer. The program concludes with a graduation ceremony and a "ride-along" with a Munster police officer.
Some of the subjects covered in the class include recruitment and hiring of officers, criminal law, traffic stops and patrol procedures, community policing, criminal investigations, traffic law, shoot/don't shoot scenarios, traffic direction, hostage negotiations, drug interdiction, DUI investigations and Taser demonstrations.
The Citizens Police Academy is open to residents who are at least 18 years of age, complete an application and submit it by the deadline and pass a simple background check.
Applications are due by Sept. 19. The class can handle up to 15 citizens.
