HOBART | A 28-year-old Gary woman was employed at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home when she is alleged to have gone on a gas spending spree with a wheelchair-bound resident's debit card.
Francis M. Knight was charged this week with conversion through Hobart City Court, according to court documents.
Detective David Evans, who investigated the case, said an individual in the nursing home's finance department alerted him to the questionable transactions.
The wheelchair-bound resident told him she had given her debit card to Knight just prior to Easter to purchase personal supplies for her and to pick up Easter clothing and baskets for Knight's children.
Knight brought back the requested items and told the resident she didn't spend any money on herself or her children.
She told police she gave the debit card back but later took it, without the resident's permission, and used it to purchase close to $600 in gasoline from Speedway Gas Station in Hobart.
