BURNS HARBOR | A man wanted in connection with a double homicide was arrested Sunday by Burns Harbor police after a traffic stop and chase across northern Porter County, said Burns Harbor Police Chief Jerry Price.

Price said Officer Craig Barnes was checking out a report of a reckless driver when he found a silver Cadillac with Wisconsin plates in a local car dealership.

Price said the driver gave Barnes a false name. Barnes called for backup from Porter police Officer Tawni Komisarcik and Lt. John Lane and the man in the car drove away, leading police on a chase that took them on Old Porter Road, Ind. 149, U.S. 20 and I-94. At about 40 mph, the driver veered off the interstate and crashed his car into a tree. He was arrested without incident.

After the driver's real identity was established, police dispatchers discovered he was wanted for questioning in connection with a double homicide in Milwaukee, Price said.

Arrested was Joshua G. Towns, 1124 A N. 14th St., Milwaukee. He was arrested on local charges of resisting law enforcement.

Price said this type of incident shows "there's no such thing as a routine traffic stop."

"If you don't think the wolf can show up some day -- you're wrong," Price said. "It's not like it used to be around here."

Price said his department processed evidence from Towns' car, which included bloody clothing, but no weapon. The evidence was handed over to detectives from Milwaukee, who arrived later Sunday in Porter County.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Milwaukee Police Department got an anonymous call about 6 p.m. Saturday to "check out the welfare" of two people in the 1100 block of North 14th Street. Police found Danielle Fannin, 19, and O'Neal Gamble Jr., 20.

The Journal Sentinel said prosecutors will review the evidence against the three adults and one juvenile, all males, suspected of beating and stabbing Fannin and Gamble. It was not clear whether Towns was included among those four.

Further information from Milwaukee police was not available Monday.
