GARY | A Wisconsin woman was the victim of apparent homicide late Friday afternoon in Gary, a spokesman for the Lake County coroner confirmed.

Shannon S. Buttles, 44, of Fremont, died from a gunshot wound to the head after being shot in her car in the area of West Ridge Road and Van Buren Street, according to the coroner's office.

After the shooting, the woman's car reportedly continued west on Ridge Road and hit a pole before stopping in the parking lot of The Cave, a bar at the corner of Ridge Road and Grant Street.

Gary police officers were still on the scene investigating Friday evening.
